Overview

What is Double Marker Test ?

A double marker test is done to assess the risk of baby to be born with Down Syndrome. However, this is not a conclusive test but still gives fair idea about the risk. This test is predictive rather than diagnostic. The levels of beta-human chorionic gonadotropin (beta-hCG) and pregnancy-associated plasma protein A (PAPP-A) in the blood are measured (PAPP-A). There is some evidence that HCG and PAPP-A levels are atypical in chromosomally-defective pregnancies. This double marker test is generally seen along with Level 1 or NT scan by the gynecologist.

At Maurya Labs, the cost of Double Marker Test is Rs. 2500 and the report is made available on the same day.

Reported Parameters

The result of the double marker test is presented in the form of ratios.

  • If the ratio is between 1:10 to 1:250, it is termed as a “screen positive” result which lies in the high-risk zone.
  • A ratio of 1:1000 or above is termed as “screen negative” result which shows a low risk.
