Hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg) is a small polypeptide that exists in a free form in the serum of individuals during the early phase of hepatitis B infection, soon after hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) becomes detectable. Hepatitis B is infection that can lead to liver failure or liver cancer in long run. This rapid test helps in detecting the Hepatitis B carriers in the blood before a person becomes hepatitis B positive.

HBeAg test measures the presence of Hepatitis B Virus carriers or hepatitis B antibodies in the blood thereby understanding the level of infection. Positive HBeAg results usually indicate presence of active HBV replication and high infectivity. A negative HBeAg result indicates very minimal or no HBV replication.
This test helps to identify the current and past infection with the virus. Along with the diagnosis, this test also assists in estimating the severity level of the disease. It also helps to identify if an individual is immune to the disease. If you are born in a country where hepatitis B is standard or in case you have been exposed to the virus recently, you require this test.
The HbA1c test is a simple blood test with no need for fasting before the test. The blood sample can be taken by the phlebotomist at a pathology lab.
