What is Prolactin ?


Prolactin is a hormone and is produced by Pituitary gland which is located at the base of the brain. Prolactin is responsible for breast growth in females as well as milk production post delivery of the baby. It also benefits men and women’s immune systems, mental health, and metabolism. A non-cancerous growth or tumour in pituitary gland can lead to high levels of prolactin levels. Apart from tumour it is also used for determining the source of a woman’s infertility and menstrual abnormalities.
